January Transfer Window 2026

A decent striker would struggle with the same problems that our current ones do regarding being isolated. They may grab those missed chances by Beto/Barry more but they'd still get minimal chances.
They would hold the ball up better allowing us to push out. Fixating on RB as if it's the only issue on our team is ridiculous.

I'm fixating on it as it is the one position which wasn't addressed in the summer.

CB is compounded because of the JB injury which we wouldn't have foreseen and he was given a mega new contract. We signed a new striker in Barry in the summer. We also signed a new LB. Those signings may have not worked out so far but they were made. We just decided to completely neglect RB which is why I'm frustrated by it.

The full backs are a major problem with this team. Ndiaye and Grealish would be so much more effective with better full backs and we would also get more delivery into the box as well.

We didn't have an unlimited budget and maybe the right players weren't available. If we had Tony Hibbert or Phil Neville playing right back do you think our team would be significantly better?

Hibbert would stretch the play more than JOB does, but his physicality would be far off the pace of modern football. There are gems to be found. Palace found Munoz for a good price.

Right back (and LB as mykolenko is dreadful for our buildup) is where I would start, it would improve the attacking balance of the team and free up JOB to go to CB.

They have the benefit of being cheaper positions which we're more likely to be able to fill in January, a striker moving in January is doing so because something has gone wrong or obscene amounts of money are being thrown around.

Of course if a good striker is available on loan we should go for it, it is a glaring issue I just think we're very unlikely to do anything other than compound our problems buying a new one in Jan.
