Was 18 in his last season, every top club wanted him and was an England regular. But Everton were happy to see him on the bench some games , them chats over a pint about burn out, must have been something else

Alex Ferguson was happy to see him on the bench in favour of Alan Smith in some games, no idea why you’re still plowing on with this weirdness against the manager, have you really got nothing else to have a go at him for at the moment?

Yes, but he was also 17 so not playing him every game is a completely valid approach. And he didn't play a single game the season after and we finished 4th so playing him less might actually have helped us when we finished 17th.

In 2004 Rooney was arguably the best player at the euros so I have no idea how people say Moyes mismanaged him. He’s literally taken him from an academy player to best in the world. He was arguably never as good again after that later in his career and was practically finished in his early 30s so maybe Moyes was right to limit his games at times.

Barkley is a good example as well, he had loans under Moyes and then time on the right wing. He burst on the scene under Martinez playing every game but what happened after that? He turned into an indecisive wreck who couldn’t nail down a position properly and went from being an England international to sitting on Villa’s bench. Would that have happened under Moyes or would he have gone on to do what Baines Coleman Lescott Jagielka did as players who didn’t get in immediately under Moyes but developed over time to top players.
