If this is the case, I'd be fully behind going for him.
However, I'd still say summer is more likely than Jan.

If there's only a remote possibillity of getting Pickford, we should be all over Sunderland. Wave some of that 'monopoly' money at them.
Pickford is a no brainer for me. High quality young English keeper with premier league experience. We won't be the only ones sniffing though. Agree a deal in January let sunderland keep him til the summer be ideal

I'm hoping the rumours about a double-swoop for Sule and Rudy are true, quality players and Sule would be a player we could build our defence round for the next decade!
As @BlueToff has mentioned he's a very good prospect who I'm confident will go onto to be a good keeper; possibly even a great keeper.
Regardless of how poor Sunderland have been, he's made a fairly sizeable number of outstanding saves and single handily prevented a rout.
With a steady and experienced defence in front of him then I'm sure he'd prosper.
Signing an error prone young keeper would probably be 1 of the worst ideas EVER.
