2025/26 James Tarkowski

Getting away with it at the moment but it's a massive worry that he's gonna start costing us a lot of points. Need to hope he can find some form and it's not a downward spiral.

He’s a cart horse. A crisis defender who is in his comfort zone when in a relegation battle. It’s little wonder why these players always slip back into this situation, it’s all they know and what they’re comfortable in. They don’t want the onus and pressure of being favourites to win games. It’s a problem that somebody like this is our captain, in my humble opinion.

Could solve several problems by bringing O’Brien across to partner Keane, then Garner to right back and Rohl to centre midfield.
I’d definitely try it but would be wary of saying it will definitely solve problems. We don’t really have much evidence that O’Brien will be a very good centre half and he’s been awful at right back recently so it’s very much a punt (albeit one I’d be happy to take).

Shaky as hell this season, and his weird games where he starts badly and struggles to recover are getting more frequent. Buts let not pretend he hasn’t been one of our most important, consistent, and high performing players since he got here, and part of one of the leagues meanest defences whilst simultaneously being one of the leagues worst teams. Being crap now doesn’t have to mean a player was crap 18 months ago.

Would also drop him ahead of Keane mind. Until Keane has a couple of duff games in a row, he is comfortably ahead of Tarks in the CB pecking order.
