Reading between a lot of lines with the whole situation but it’s pretty obvious that Benitez won’t be starting him…and I wouldn’t be at all surprised if James ‘feigns’ a few injuries to not have to be on the bench…which in all likelihood is a narrative that would suit Benitez as well.

It would be stupidity of the highest order from Benitez not to pick James on the bench, if he was available, due to all the injuries we had today.

They're both worse than each other.

Regardless of if it was Benitez as manager...I think anyone would have the same issue with James. He needs kids gloves and attention to make him feel happy.

Most managers now don't do that or make out they have favourites.

Personally...you should do everything you can to win football matches. That keeps everyone happy.

If he actually came to the manager with a little knock before yesterday then that's not good enough. I'm pretty sure Benitez absolutely does not rate the player but I'm not sure there's an agenda either. The player is not the most committed and can lack professionalism. It happened in the second half of last year.

If he is in any way fit then he should be making himself available for Tuesday and demanding to play given our injuries. If hes not itching to get on the field then I dont get it. His international career is over for a start if he doesn't play any matches this season.
