James McCarthy

No, it means he won't be sold this month but the possibility is there summer '17. It's in writing and Koeman is very straight forward in how he speaks. Your interpretation skills are abysmal.
Ha Ha.

Mate, re-read it. It makes absolutely no sense the way you have it. How could RK state he would let him go in a few months after saying that he now sees what McCarthy has to offer?

Whatever else he is he's not a moron.

It's clear: he would have sold after last summer when the window was opened then, but not now.

I remember Martinez saying the medical team had a nightmare trying to figure out why his injuries kept recurring. He said they eventually figured it was his footwear but his injuries didn't seem to stop there.

If the sports science team (or whatever they're calling themselves these days) well and truly believe they've got a handle on keeping him fit we should keep him. If not, we should sell.

It is touch and go and I wouldn't say it isn't a gamble. If it comes off we have a hell of a CM unit.

I think Koeman knows it too. He wont get what a fully fit McCarthy does for you for the price we'd get for him.

Well as I say I'd keep him. We don't have another player in his ilk. But if he wants to play every game and we can get a decent price for him then fair enough.

He won't go unless we get good money so it's all good.

You really think that McCarthy is the quality of player that is going to take us to where we want to be?

We don't have another player in his ilk.

We have an abundance of defensive midfielders, most of which are better than McCarthy.

If he stays ,good , we'll have decent cover from the bench. If he goes meh, someone else gets his seat on the bench. His personal future is largely immaterial to Everton's.

Which is the problem. He probably won't want to be back up. Which is fair enough.

Yeah, it's a good attitude to have. He'll definitely get plenty of games if we're competing in Europe, Cups & League. Not sure his body can handle week in week out games anymore to be honest. Might be wise for him to lower his expectations.

He's exactly the quality of back up we need.

I don't think it is wise to turn down 16 million pound for a backup that is seldom fit, we already have Besic excelling in that role. He's our 5th choice central midfielder, and it clearly makes sense to sell him when he is attracting interest from Championship clubs like Newcastle, who are willing to waste 16 million on him.

Next season Barry will hardly feature, if at all, for obvious reasons. I would agree that Besic has done well when fit but he's never fit. For that reason we can not rely on him.

That means we'll only have Gana, Schniederlin and Davies. That isn't enough to compete in three cups and a league.

Yes, €16m sounds great but it doesn't buy you a lot these days. Unless Steve Walsh has a gem up his sleeve, or one of the youths (Ledson, Walsh?) are ready then we shouldn't be taking it.

So I'm guessing from the clamour of all the posters desperate to sell, that they would start Tom Cleverly ahead of a fit James McCarthy?

What a world we live in.

You are comparing one reserve who is soon to leave the club because he isn't good enough, with another reserve who will soon be leaving the club because he isn't good enough. You do this because no logical person would try and argue that McCarthy is a better option than our four other central midfielders who are all much better than him, and well ahead of him in the pecking order.

The truth is that many people are still in love with McCarthy because he had a decent season about three years ago, and are still unable to accept that Newcastle is his level. The same happened with Martinez, it took over 18 months of the worst football I have ever seen at Goodison for people to finally snap out of their love trance.
