'After the summer' referred to after last summer...hence why he said he wanted to keep him because he showed him what he likes...so why would he want to sell him.For now, be gone in the summer.

Probably because he has value and he wants to play every week, i would say he is joint 4th/5th choice with Besic.'After the summer' referred to after last summer...hence why he said he wanted to keep him because he showed him what he likes...so why would he want to sell him.

I dont know why. He's played when fit.
That's what his inclusion depends on, imo.
Well I doubt his international place depends on it. The RoI are chronic in that CM area and he's been injured and out of Everton's team and still picked by them. That would be the only motive McCarthy would have to leave unless it was to a club of similar stature to Everton.
I know. And it only makes sense the way I interpreted it.The interview was in January 2017 mate.
Fully fit I wouldn't put too many of the other CMs at the club in front of him. He can cover a lot of ground and tidy up all over our half. As said, when he's fit.I suppose if he wants to play every week he may want to leave. He may also feel his nose has been out out of joint, with the signings of Schneiderlin & Gana which wold be understandable.
My own view is he should stay and we should keep him. I don't think he's half the player when he plays within himself. Yet I don't think he can go full pelt game in game out. Having him in the Darren Fletcher role at United, where he played the big games to disrupt the opposition could suit all parties and allow hm to manage his hamstrings properly.
Or he could go to Newcastle nd flog his body game in game out and probably not be half as effective.
26 years of age. That makes him the youngest out of the group of CMs we have barring Davies. He's shown good form of late and signs he's getting back to his best.I agree. He has played way more than I thought he would but looking at our options now, he doesn't look as good as the others. By quite a way.
I do see a place for him. In a game like the Arsenal one, where he was fantastic, you need a player like that to tackle anything that moves but sadly I don't think that's enough these days.
Ah well.
Despite his age, He's also probably the second most experienced midfielder we have after Barry.26 years of age. That makes him the youngest out of the group of CMs we have barring Davies. He's shown good form of late and signs he's getting back to his best.
You can be sure if we let him go he'll go elsewhere and recapture that form of two seasons back.

Defo. He's a player for us if his injuries are receding into the past. I do honestly think Koeman realises what he can give us.Despite his age, He's also probably the second most experienced midfielder we have after Barry.

If he meant he would let go a player THIS summer after the player had shown him what he wanted to see then what would that say about Koeman's judgement?!
No, it meant last summer.
It is touch and go and I wouldn't say it isn't a gamble. If it comes off we have a hell of a CM unit.Or he continues his trend of reoccurring hamstring injuries and we've made a decent sum.
