James McCarthy

He simply has to start the derby next to Gana. I know it looks as though that pairing lacks creativity. But I love nothing more than seeing a midfielder sprint into a tackle.
Give me that over a 30 yard pass any day.

The pair of them in the centre of the park allowed Arsenal no time on the ball today and this is where the game was won IMO

Liverpools midfield will be much more energetic than Arsenals so it would be criminal to bring Barry in for it - the three last night is much better suited to deal with Liverpool.

Loved how he put his foot in after only 30 odd seconds.... just to let them know he was there!
And then sprinting 30 yards to get his own back on Coqulin
EXACTLY WHAT WE HAVE BEEN NEEDING

If McCarthy plays like this with passion hereinafter then he will be a useful player at the club.

When Barry is playing the midfield lacks energy.

Fair play to McCarthy last night he really did get stuck in. I have been one of his biggest critics and although he didnt exactly change my opinion of him being a massive crab he put in a huge amount of work alongside Gueye and injected some much needed aggression and snide. Loved him taking Coquellin out 30 seconds after he had been done himself. Has done enough to start on Monday and hope he shows up over that overrated show pony 'Hendo.'

His legs aren't going to last 90 minutes on a short week against that squad. They both need to play.

In fairness to James I think that was his 1st match under Koenman where he played in a position that he was comfortable with.

Well he played that same position against Swansea, albeit slightly deeper as we were playing 4-2-3-1.

It was much more of a 4-1-4-1 / 4-3-3 last night and we had plenty of energy in the midfield, with Barkley there to provide that spark of creativity.
