Good game from him today. Looked hungrier for the ball than what I've seen from him in recent times. Just wish he'd take more of a chance coming forward sometimes, reckon he has goals in him.

Doesn't look great confidence wise with the goal to aim at, tbf. I think he's got to start adding this to his game. Martinez reckons it's all about confidence. If it made him more bold in attacking play I'd actually give him the armband.

Will happen in the coming years, of course.

But we won't be seeing this lad with the armband any time soon.

Which is sad because he's fecking boss.

Thought he was great today. I think he is restricted in his role a the moment on the team, he mops up in front of our defence and snuffs out attacks from the opposition. I agree with everybody in that he has to add more drive to his game but i feel the role Martinez has given him in the team makes it hard for him to score.
When we are chasing a game or like today playing against a team that has the bus parked in their own box he can drive forward more.
I saw where Martin O`Neill said that he needs to take games by the scruff of the neck and i think that will come in time. It was a great deal to get him for 13 million and he has shown to be one of the top young midfielders in the league a future captain.

to score goals you have to have an attempt. Has McCarthy ever had a dig at goal for us?

It's no great shame he doesn't go for goal himself all the time either via shots or runs. It shows a great maturity, he understands his role is for the benefit of the team not himself... it's clear what Martinez said has alot of truth about it, the fact that staying at Accies playing regular league football from aged 16 has given him a fantastic undertsanding of the game. Future captain material is not a bad shout at all
