James McCarthy

I knew there was something about him that reminded me of Yak.

He's growing on me. He isn't in Fellani's class defending but he's pretty good at it and his passing appears to be excellent.

I think its the exact opposite to be honest mate. I think he is a much better and disciplined holding midfielder and not as effective as Fellaini further up the pitch. Obviously height wise Fellaini was a big help defensively.

He doesn't tackle as well as Fellaini, but McCarthy's a better defender.

I think he does you know. Fellaini often just stuck a leg out which the attacker either dribbled past or won a foul out of. McCarthy properly plants his non-tackling foot and puts a bit of weight behind them.

But at the same time Fellaini often just moved players off the ball and won a lot more 'battles' rather than 'tackles' compared to McCarthy.

Another fine performance from James. I was more than chuffed when he signed, and he has proved to be exactly the player I knew he is.

He is good with the ball and distributes it well. Looks to break up the oppositions play all the time. My only concern is his tackling looks a bit cumbersome at times and could easily build up the yellows but liking the look of this player.

Love his constant pressing. He isn't backed up in the middle enough by Barry for it to work efficiently though annoyingly.

barrys role is quite different break it up and pass it on keeping it simple and is working very well at the mo

on the other hand JMC role is different and is beginning to gel with the rest of the team

Think McCarthy has blended in almost seamlessly and I'm not saying I dislike Barry, but feel a bit vulnerable to quick attacks like today because of his lack of pace. I mean, imagine two McCarthys in the middle.
