I'm a big fan of trying to play from the back but it's pretty clear we don't have the defenders or even goalie to do this. Once he's fit, I would expect Alcaraz to gradually become first choice

important word missing their, WHEN FIT, fact is gibbo hasnt even been fit for selection yet so a mute point, mccarthy is better than osman, the team plays masively better when hes in the side, should start next game imo

Not worried at all about the penalty, yes it was sill but as Tubey said, it happens to the best of them.

Take out the penalty and we got a solid 45 minutes, him replacing Osman in the middle helped as change the tempo of the game.

remember both barkley and coleman (last season) giving away a very similar pen, msitakes happen and tis how the lad played after that i liked, head didnt drop and some really nice touches of the ball, and first look seemed to be get it forward not sideways which was a good sign

hes constantly moving and it creates space for others for those first time passes mate, without him their we look too static and have to hold on waiting for someone to move to space, like night and day the difference a mobile high energy payer makes to the system

As long as mistakes aren't costing us points it will hopefully turn into a valuable lesson for him, We're quick to cover mistakes from Barkley as we all know its good for his learning but McCarthy is still only a young lad himself so I'm not too critical over the penalty.

He looked quite good I thought, always found a pass and gave the midfield a lot more mobility

Best post on this thread includes the the words WHEN FIT. Mc Carthy is not even good enough to replace Osman jump up and down if you want the guy is Wigan at a push.
