Well, they can... Everything is signed off after the medical.

What I mean is the clubs have agreed and the player and the buying club have also agreed terms. It's only the outcome of the medical that can prevent the player being sat down and handed a pen by the club secretary.

Think of it as a kind of contractual limbo.

All Everton have to to do is say 'the deal is off'. It's that simple.

Everton still have to sign the transfer of registration papers etc. Which is done after the medical.

I've always been a fan of James, palace are getting a good player here for a decent price, if he can stay fit?!?!? My advice to Woy would be dont let him play for Ireland!!
Completely fell out with him after the Ireland affair. Whilst I get the desire to represent your country of birth (oops!!), I felt he was unprofessional bordering on reckless in always making himself available when not fully recovered from injury. It also showed a lack of respect for us Everton fans. However I have to say that he has always given his all when playing for us and that career threatening leg break against West Brom was typical of his bravery and application in a blue shirt.

At one stage I'd have been happy to kick him out and say good riddance, but I've mellowed a lot and now wish him well and prefer to thank him for the good times he had with us earlier in his Everton career.
