James McCarthy

The Barry McCarthy partnership were almost ever present in Martinez’s first season and a huge reason for the its success.

Wish James well at Palace

Was great to watch, that season - Baines and Coleman storming down the wings with Barry and McCarthy holding the fort; and Barry in particular spraying the passes around. Sadly, the decline of Baines and Coleman showed up Jimmy Mac's offensive shortcomings. I wish the lad well, always tried for us but he has his obvious limitations.

How hard was he to get rid of if even with Brands in charge we can still only get 3 million. I kid. Probably using the money saved on fee to give him a comparable wage to what he was on here.
I think Palace are trying to play the poor card a bit much tbh. They will also free up 130k a week in wages when we steal thier only real player.

I remember the days when Man U were sniffing around him and talk was of a 30m bid. Thats when 30m was significant.

And here we are in what should be his peak years and its 3m.

Funny old game.

Wish him well. Was great for a season. The injury was horrific and the battles with O’Neil and Kean were appalling. They destroyed him.
Hope he gets back on track at Palace. It is time he moved on.
Good business for Everton at whatever price.

99% of reports saying 8 to 8.5, this guy saying 3, hmmm

I’ve read ‘deal could reach £8.5m’ in a couple of reports to be fair. Plus reports yesterday talked about payment structures which initially seemed strange as it’s not a big fee but now makes sense as it’ll probably have been referring to an initial payment and further ones based on performances.

20 games in all competitions in the past 3 years, I'm surprised we're getting anything for him.

Good luck to him, shame the injuries hampered him as he was quality in the middle when fit.

133 appearances in all competitions over 6 years. That is extremely disappointing given his promise in that first season under Martinez.

Not really bothered about the fee, simply shifting him off the wage bill is what is important to the club.

A player who had lots of talent but spoilt it by ignoring club doctors and allowing himself to be bullied by those gargoyles Keane and O'Neill. He's going to look back on his career with loads of regrets.

Palace probably have reservations about his ability to stay uninjured.
I would guess they would me more appearance clauses than performance clauses.
