Well, Ratcliffe was just one of a few captains in that side. Reid was always the captain of the 80s teams for me. Ratcliffe was a superior player to Watson, but Watson was a true leader.

I'd think it was a miracle, because others on here have been saying for months that it cant be done...impossible to sell such players...apparently.

I may be going against popular thought here, but I had a lot of time for Phil The Pointer. He was an enthusiastic and inspirational captain, and suffered with the GP crowd simply because he came from Man Utd. His tackle on Ronaldo was a game changer for us that season. He did,however, like many others, go on a season too long.

He was the player you wanted in the team when things got tough. He never stopped fighting, and was easily twice the captain jags ever was. He also had a goal or two in him.

He was also captain during a period where we got beat most weeks (often very very badly), and had absolutely appalling squad discipline. Amazing how a trophy completely blinds people to reality.

James McCarthy is rubbish.

Went missing in just about every derby he played in, and that cup tie against Wigan he was a disgrace.

I've conceded that we may need to just forget any thought of a fee for one or two. The majority thiugh are in the shiftable categorey, and they will be shifted too.

Made no secret of the fact I’m a big fan of McCarthy... just a shame his time here has been hampered with injury. Early on he showed glimpses of being a very good player.. hope he can get a decent move and recover his fitness.
