James McCarthy

The difference with Moyes was that the only reason we didn’t profit on his players was because we kept most of them. Had we sold Baines Coleman Arteta Cahill Pienaar Jagielka at their peaks how much profit do you think we’d have created? There was also the Lescott sale that created a lot alongside Fellaini and Stones.

I’m not disputing the Lukaku signing but aside from that it was mostly poor signings which have turned over very quickly mostly at a loss. Whilst Baines Coleman and even Jags we’re still in and around the first team even last season alltnhis time after Moyes, nearly every Martinez signing is either out the building or completely removed from the first team picture.
He was here 11 years; how could he not get together players of value at their peak at some point? Almost impossible not to.

If he goes for £8M, that'll be a net profit on Martinez signings of £36M - thus far.

And if anyone's having a go at McCarthy's quality they have very short memories and / or are clueless about football, because he was easily our best DM since Carsley.

True, but the Lukaku transfer is doing a lot of heavy lifting there.

McCarthy we will make a loss on.

Good player, but been nigh on useless for last 2 seasons due to injury. His first season with us he was excellent, no doubt.

Hope we accept the £8m and the lad can get on with his career. Was a sensation in his 1st season and has been a real pro throughout his stay, shame he'll never be fit and be the player he could have been. Palace will be a great move for him.

He did, 07-10 multiple European qualifications, a cup final, derby wins, sadly ruined by three ACL injuries to the spine of his team in one season.

Lukaku aside we’ve not recruited well since Moyes left. Finally it looks like we could be.

Eh? Moyes bought a bunch of players who not many saw the value in and they turned out to be top class players for us. What issue do you possibly have with that?

Don't understand people saying accept it immediately. If we can get more money from it, brands will. Our valuation is supposedly £10m, best practice is to not accept the first bid.
