I don’t rate McCarthy, he’s very average but gana isn’t much better. And as for every aspect. McCarthy has a better goal record.
I presume you mean tacking and winning back possession.
You need to be good at more than two things to be considered a top midfielder.

you sure about that? seems like a lot of idle speculation. Yea, he lined out for Ireland when he shouldn't have but did Everton refuse him permission to travel?
 
He is capable of quality performances. I remember the Arsenal game in which Ashley Williams got the winner, we were a goal down when McCarthy put in a thumping challenge on Ozil and it completely changed the match, the crowd remembered there was a game on and we got an equaliser before half time before going on to win. When we're missing a a bit of bite in midfield he is ideal.

However he is capable of dreadful displays and there have been too many times when he just looks like an average Championship midfielder. If we want to be competing with the top 6 I don't think he's of the standard to get us there but if Gueye is carrying an injury or is looking a little jaded he isn't a bad replacement.
 
Looking forward to him looking ace for three games and then getting crocked on international duty for the nineteenth time.

The difference is significant and no, 90% of posters would not say that, that's ridiculous. There's always going to be a handful of posters that know nothing about footy, there's also always going to be different opinions of those who do know something about it, have coached it, scouted, played, whatever. IMO, McCarthy literally doesn't do a single thing better than Gana, but there are a few active posters that don't think Gana is any good.

But then again, there are those that continue to say all sorts of things that can even be factually disproven. Siggy doesn't work hard, Michael Keane is slow, Gana gives the ball away, so I expect some bad opinions, too.
