£14mil seems steep he's not the kind of guy who's going to win matches, he does the job he's there for well but he's not spectacular. Think we could do better for the price but he's young, British and has EPL experience. Wish I understood why our inferior in ability homegrown players cost so much.

Have a feeling Fellaini will be gone but can handle that just not baines.

To those saying use the money on a striker, we need 2 cm at least first, we got to have a strong midfield before a striker. Don't mind James, might be expensive but he can do the job right away, will know what to do in Martinez system, is a premiership ready player. Would have James then get someone in from Europe who will need at least 12 months to settle in and learn how Martinez wants to play. We don't have patient fans so James will be ideal. This is why we have to get the extra few million off Man u.

Do agree the midfield needs sorting first. Finally in Barkley I think we'v got a quality No.10. Ossie is no CM that's for sure but can certainly still do a job as Barkley's cover. If Fellaini goes we only have Gibson, who will only play 20 games or so. Mcarthy and Barry would be perfect IMO. 1 young, 1 experienced. Both sets of fans love these 2 players and don't want to lose them, which speaks volumes IMO.

After that Yes a striker would be great! One would have to move on tho. Vic or jelavic? I'd go jelavic, vic is different and does offer a impact from the bench. Even a loan for jelavic may work if we end up flush. Demba Ba is the obvious one for me and would make a massive difference to our team.

Will he won't he...Baines?? I seriously hope we can hold on to baines. With fellaini's cash and maybe one or two other departures, new players and keeping Leighton could make a very succesfull summer. If not maybe Bertrand from Chelsea a good replacement

Ideally for me.
Out - Fellaini heitinga Jelavic
In - Barry Mcarthy Ba Winger

Spot on, not seen much of Bertrand but we must keep hold of Baines today, get rid of Fellaini if we can, would rather get 3 players in then keep him.

Tell me...I am curious...when did goals become important for a DM. Where would you rate goals in importance when rating a DM?...i am very curious. I watched the vid of McCarthy posted earlier in this thread...what he did was excellent...breaking up play...distribution etc and I liked a lot of his options...seems to have a quick mind to anticipate as well...thus I would liek to know what you didn't like there...related to the duties he needs to perform in his role on the pitch?

Well said mate (y)

Why are we paying a 3 million premium on a player yet United aren't?

Because, despite the venom directed at him, Wigan's chairman has more balls than ours. Wouldn't all of us here prefer his attitude at our club? You have to stop looking at things purely from our side. He's simply doing what's best to protect the interests of Wigan. It's pay up or shut up.

This suggests that we are keen to accept any bid which is a little untrue as we've turned them down a few times already.

Personally think we'v handled the baines/Fellaini thing well so far. Rejected a silly offer out of hand and if reports are to be believed the latest rejected offer is 38M which is a figure about there worth in the market I'd say. Some won't be happy whatever we sell for because they simply believe we shouldn't sell unless ridiculous fee (which is fair enough) taking my blue tinted specs off for a moment and being realistic 40M ish for those 2 players is a job well done by the board, not spectacular but well done.

Don't hammer me with the "we're Everton" we shouldn't sell our best players. "I know, I agree" but unfortunately that's not the way way football works these days (especially for us)

Well, this is what Roberto thought would replace Fellaini and he'll spend a proper wedge to get him in. There are many, many alternatives out there that some of us think are better value, but we have to trust the manager for the time being. The lad is young, familiar to the manager and highly rated so it's not all bad, even when taking a pessimistic view.

He's got to get this right though, Martinez. No excuses. This is what you have to do as minimum requirement at this club, given our financial position. Moyes did it every transfer window and now Martinez has to do it.

As I think Jock said earlier in the thread, he has my full support, but I'm going to fume if this is a waste of money. He's surely going to buy the spine of a relegated club's team for £20m. He'd better know what he's doing. I predicted inadequate signings and after the business we seem to be doing this summer, I've not yet seen enough to make me think differently.

He's getting exactly who he wanted this window, Martinez. No excuses now, go and get us top 7 at least.

I wouldn't mind James McCarthy but when our manager says he has a "vast scouting network" I don't see it as a brilliant option. I haven't seen this scouting network being put to use once!

"I have a vast scouting network, it's that vast it's only 20 minutes down the east lancs"

"But Roberto you said it's vast, like you have a wide scope"

"Haha, I think you misheard me, it's Fast! I mean fast, we are only next door to Wigan, I can have the players here the same day"

Had a chuckle at that.
