I'm all for us signing Mcarthy but 14M is a lot of money for him. If you look at it without blue tinted glasses on tho what are Wigan going to be looking at? Prob that sort of figure unfortunately. Sometimes you have to pay over the odds a little to get your man in these sort of circumstances.

Reports suggest we'v bid 7M plus 3m in add-ons, wheelan has suggested we're a couple of million short and he's worth closer to 14M..... I suggest a compromise will be met in the middle somewhere. 9M plus add-ons could well be around the final figure.

Looks like we're as bad as United then.

We're Everton mate, we're never, ever that bad (y)

I don't know if I really believe what I typed, it's just throwing random thoughts out there. I wonder how Wigan perceive us, going after their manager and now their best players? Layer Cake stuff, depends what layer you're on I guess.

From the Everton side, I'd be much less irritated if Moyes had just made the bids and not waxed hypocritical about the good of their careers, etc. You expect a manager who's built a side up over time to have at least one or two names in mind to coax over to their new side, and they're entitled to bid accordingly - where Moyes went wildly wrong was in publicly talking like he was entitled to have us accept at whatever price suited him. With Whelan at the helm, that's not something Wigan are at risk of at least.

I think the difference is that we supposedly asked DM not to come in for our best players. Dave Whelan openly stated that he welcomed Martinez to come in for players

Aye, it's interesting to look at it from another team's point of view, I'm not saying there's a right or wrong, fan loyalty to their team and players plays a big part in it.

To those saying use the money on a striker, we need 2 cm at least first, we got to have a strong midfield before a striker. Don't mind James, might be expensive but he can do the job right away, will know what to do in Martinez system, is a premiership ready player. Would have James then get someone in from Europe who will need at least 12 months to settle in and learn how Martinez wants to play. We don't have patient fans so James will be ideal. This is why we have to get the extra few million off Man u.

Sounds like we're going to get ripped off if we end up with McCarthy. Think whelan realises he's our only option so he can demand what he wants. Surely there's a better value option in Europe somewhere though.
