2025/26 James Garner

Feel sorry for him this evening. Hung out to dry. Has played LB RB and CM. Tried to baby sit Tim Iroegbunam today, and was simply swamped.

Goes to show how important he is, that we have other options yet our utility player is the preferred option in multiple positions currently.

Madness.
He’s a decent premier league centre mid. They had two top quality examples opposite him to show him up.

I think he could be a superb right back if he genuinely dedicated himself to that position, or he’ll be a good utility player for his career.

Just never going to be top class in the middle at this level.

was outnumbered, and had elanga sat just off waiting for the break. Tim Iroegbunam couldn't cope. side played frightened to death. worked very hard alongside KDH on Monday.

I like Garner but the hyperbole was gone a bit far IMO, I said on Monday night let’s see what happens tonight against a proper midfield. Came up short for me.

Thought he was one of the better players. Got in the ball and moved it quickly. However he just didn’t have a capable partner in there.

Thought he was good today and popping up all over the place to show for the ball and making some intelligent passes.

My motm and a shame he hasnt got KDH playing 8 so he had someone to play off rather than Iroegnunam.

How can you possibly use tonight as a valid look on a player..

He was on his own, trying to cover everyone else's backsides..

I would like to see one of those player graphs to see how much of the field he had to cover/operate in today..

It's easier playing 10 men when you can trust the player next to you 'like with KDH' than playing 11 men and having Tim next to you..

When a player is failing that poorly next to you, your better off without him.

If you’re praising him Monday you’re seeing reality set in today.

Monday he was against a powder puff 2 man midfield that can barely run, today was his acid test if he’s truly working towards being ‘top class’. He’s nowhere near IMO, and that’s not to say I don’t like/rate him.

He just won’t be anywhere near as good as Guimares, Joelinton, Tonali for example (and we literally saw that tonight).

2 of those players could walk into most teams.

Yeah they’re top class, which Garner isnt/wont be in the middle - that’s my point.

He’s a decent premier league central midfielder, he could be a very good full back or a reasonable utility player.

He won’t ever be anywhere near the levels of hyperbole they’ve been going round.

Disagree mate. If he had a midfield player along side him who was as good as him we'd win more than we'd lose. I think he's been our player of the year so far in midfield although I think he's equally good at right back.
