Not in this era of footy anyway. Maybe in the past, but nowadays you have to be good at both aspects of the game.

Coincidence that Barry’s best game for us is when we have a competent right back who is actually good on the ball?

He plays there forever now until we buy an actual decent right back

I'd probably say it's one of the hardest and most physically demanding.

Seems like we were both fullbacks One tough gig in a decent league. Agree 100%

See above...it's coming out of their mouths, not mine. I'm not singling out; Baines is on my Mount Rushmore FFS but it's quite obvious he was an exception to the rule because he wasn't pacey but had stamina and a brain.

What a player. If it was Sunday league, he winning an award every season. Best player, players players player, managers player. He’s winning something. Give him the armband

Has to play at rb, as we have options in midfield that can take his place.

Nothing against Jake either, he’s had a good go and done his best.

His energy and quality on the ball improved us from that position. Feel a bit sorry for him though as I don't think you want to be a good midfielder (which he is) that ends up at full back.

Perhaps I'm thinking a bit old school though from the crap level I played at where youput your worst players at full back.

On the ball he was good but not so sure his defending yesterday was a success, he got beat numerous times.

Yesterday he recorded, out of this season, his second most progressive passes, second post total progressive passing distance, and second most completed passes into the final 3rd. The 1st most in all of those was against Villa when he played LB. He's just soooo much better at moving the ball up the pitch as a fullback. Tried a beautiful curved through ball to Barry that very very nearly came off too.

Looked a touch suspect 1v1 defensively but hopefully that can be worked on.
