2025/26 James Garner

He’d need a few injuries to get in the squad I think. Anderson is rightly starting at 6, then it’s probably Wharton next. He’d probably be vying with Scott for that final position. The biggest sham of all is that Henderson is taking a space when he’d be completely useless if he actually ever got on the pitch.

….it was probably an acknowledgement to Garner that he’s being noticed. Saying that, its always useful to have a player who offers genuine versatility in a squad, a player who can cover full-back and CM could be a real bonus.

Tuchel’s been pretty clear that his midfield will have three positions, a holding 6, and 8, and a 10.

Bellingham, Rodgers, Palmer, Eze, Foden, Gibbs White are all 10s

Rice is the starting 8, Henderson and Jones are probably other players in there.

In terms of 6s, there’s Anderson, Wharton and Scott, maybe Mainoo comes in there too. That’s where I’d see Garner if he has any chance of making the squad at all vying for third choice in that spot.

Becoming a
According to some, he’s only good enough to be a squad player. For me been one of our best most consistent players this year.

I like the lad, always puts a shift in.
Up until this season it's arguable that was the only level he showed as he was inconsistent. This season he's gone up a notch entirely. Giving at least 7/10 performances every week. Long may it continue.

You're probably right but there's less of a drop off at CM when replacing him than there is at RB. We've looked our best as a team this season when he's been a fullback.
No, we've looked our best this year when there's been someone who can play with the ball at full back - a CB (JOB) doesn't offer that, a CM does.

Similarly we've looked atrocious with him at LB because the team is unbalanced with a makeshift LB and a makeshift RB.

Crux is we need a right back who's been a right back and will be one going forward - wasting players like this is pointless in the long run.

I think if push came to shove he’s going to take someone like palmer or foden over garner regardless If his ‘10 slots’ are full
