Paddy Boyland mentioned in his question/answer column today via the Athletic, that we have a year extension in Garner's contract that can be activated.

Do it then rip it up and sign him to a new 5 year deal at a healthy salary.

We’d be tripping over ourselves to bring in a player of his profile. Would do us a world of good in the market to be seen as rewarding a player in our own squad who paid his dues and came good. Obviously we are ultimately a selling club, as is every club in the world except maybe three or four, but if we can show players of this stripe that this is a good place to be we’d reap benefit.

I actually think he could be a very good full back as opposed to a useful midfielder. If he is going to stay in midfield I'd like to see him specialise as a DM.

I think he's a bit better than some are giving him credit for.

I certainly wouldn't be pushing him out the door when there are lads whose basic trapping and passing don't always look PL-level in the team most weeks.

Gana had suitors from Saudi and is on his final contract. Jimmy allegedly has suitors from a club 40 mins away who will likely pay him more and give him more chance of England just by playing for them.

It's not that Tarks wasn't important, I just don't think he would leave us if we offered the deal later in the season.

Garner will start questioning his future with us if we aren't speaking to him behind the scene's. Any player would.
