2024/25 James Garner

Think he's shown what he is at this point and that's a bottom half midfielder at his best. He's as bad as Mccarthy was for just passing sideways and being completely passive in possesion, though Mccarthy at least covered more ground.

Hes yet another in a long line of Everton signings sold to us on the premise that they're good at set pieces only for that skill to completely abandon them once they get here.
We are a bottom half team so that's fine for now

Need to extend his deal (expires in a season though i think theres a 1year option).

Then over the next 2 seasons increase the quality in CM and see if he can step up.

I think he'd respond well to the challenge in all honesty. He's probably just about at the level, and age currently to allow us to take that risk.

I like him and worst case he's a rotation player.

If Armstrong can come through and reach a high level + we sign one top notch CM then already Garner would need to be on form most weeks.

Competition for places and a decent 'local' core of English players is ideal.

We will still see more of him when we improve the midfield overall. There's a reason he looks better when the trio is him, Gueye and Charly. If Doucoure is on any opposition will focus/double Garner as he's our only ball playing midfielder.

He doesn’t really stand out in games does he. Doesn’t make killer passes, doesn’t score a worldie, doesn’t take boss set pieces, doesn’t do the job Gana does defensively.

He’s a solid 5.5/10 which for me isn’t enough.
