2025/26 Jake O'Brien

Mental how when hes got the ball in a central area he seems so much better on the ball. When he's out right its like he has blinkers on. 3 times today when he turned back with the ball there was a simple pass to Pickford but he turns on the outside again and panics. Same with Dibling in front of him, just doesn't have a picture of playing it off and moving. Looks absolutely shocking right back yet looks like he can drive out with the ball from central defence.

Glad someone else noticed this! Not sure if he’s just too one footed, but he turns simple defensive work into something very awkward.

It's horrible to watch, he looks even more limited than Mykolenko with the ball when he's at right back. Yet when he plays in the centre he never seems flustered, seems happy to stride out with the ball and plays crisps incisive passes. It really must be how he has a picture in his mind of the pitch and when he's central he's sees it a lot better. He's been woeful as right back this season season, far worse than last season season where he at least got forward (think he got forward more than Jack Harrison most of the time)

Absolutely horrible once again last night, but the manager can't/won't see it. Thankfully will be centre half for the next month, and who knows, maybe a miracle may occur this month that sees an actual right back brought to the club.

That moment in the first half (was it?) when Keane (I think) played a 30-yard ball across to O'Brien, stood around the half way line, with absolutely no opposition player near him and acres of space ahead of him. My God - must be one of the most negative things I have ever seen on a football field, and was rightly met with a chorus of groans by the fans. The automatic negative attitude to cushion the ball back 20 yards to Tarkowski instead of control it and look to move forwards was absolutely pathetic from Jake.

I could kind of understand somebody not necessarily wanting to move the ball in the direction of Dwight McNeil who should be the person you'd look to as a right back starting an attack, but to actively decide to instantly get rid of the ball and pass the responsibility on to somebody 20 yards closer to your own goal, when you could have taken 15 touches and moved it literally anywhere else at all, it was just ridiculous. Hopefully he's booed next time.

I would say I hope Moyes got right into him for that, but I doubt it was even noticed. Maybe it was even appreciated by the manager, who would know?

Everyone wants to play him as centre back and rightly so.
But when we get new right back, he will sit on the bench and then subbed on to play right back again.
If you know your manager...

100% agree.

Let's berate him every second like we did with John Stones. Stones was never good enough for some of our so-called supporters.
I believe most people are a fan of JOB but at center back.

The frustration ois aimed at the fool who keeps playing him out of position. He did a job for us end of last season when Moyes was getting a tune out of the team.... great. It isn't 'as bad' when we play away and sit deeper.

But playing him RB constantly at home is criminal.

Get a RB in the window, play Patterson, or put Garner back there.

Keane will invariably be ahead of him in the pecking order once back in the manager’s eye.

Also fully expect manager to offer Keane another extension this summer assuming he is still here. He won’t flush easily.

oh no, he can't play right back anymore what a shame .....
