Keane doesn't want to play for a club who blame him when their toast is burned?

Yeah but the thing about Keane is that even if he didn’t burn the toast himself it is his fault. He probably distracted Tarkowski who was making the toast and Tarkowski was so busy worrying about what Keane was doing the toast got burned.

Im sure the payrise is great but losing his place in his national team and going from Lyons top CB to 4th choice with us must really frustrate him.

Maybe he's just our 4th best centre back at the moment??? Doesn't mean he's either useless or being poorly managed. Just means he probably needs to improve. He's at an age where he should be improving though.

All the keaneites and Dychetes convincing themselves this lad must be awful, just because Keane didn’t make a total arse if himself in defence and scored a cracker so Dyche must be a football and tactical genius….. ok lids, ok.

At £17mil and 23 I'd expect him to at least be 3rd choice and being rotated in.

He appears to be 4th choice even behind Keane. For that, we could have loaned someone and used the money elsewhere -- or spent it on a teenager with massive potential.

At this rate we'll have a 24 year old backup end of the season who we will not be able to shift.

I wonder if we will try and move him on in Jan.

How can you judge him after 30 mins if pl football? He deserves to be starting simple as. It doesn’t mean that because Keane didn’t make a joke of himself today he is a proper footballer

I don't think any of this changes what I said. Of course, he could turn out to be terrible, but I prefer to be optimistic. As I said, I'm sure he'll be striving to improve, and he's a young 23 in terms of exposure and experience.

As for spending the money elsewhere. I can see that argument, it does seem a strange move, but then centre back is a very specialist position, and outside of Keane, Tarkowski and Branthwaite, our other options would have been Coleman and Mykolenko. You can see the myriad potential issues there I'm sure... I also feel it's no coincidence that the Gnonto thing went quiet after TFG 'pulled out.' I reckon we were confident of getting others in before that, or certainly the manager was led to believe there was more money. Either that or Kev just went over his head.

….not a tactical genius, it’s just that his judgement in playing Keane was endorsed.

It’s a nonsense to suggest he’s desperate to play Keane, he was rarely selected last season, his judgement was that both Branthwaite and Godfrey were better options. At this point in time his judgement is that Keane is a better option than O’Brien, that’s all it is. Longer term we hope Thelwell has brought in a good player who can transition into the team but that remains to be seen.

Certainly no Keaneite here but be wary of a new contract being offered , remember Tom Davies was offered a new deal.

With a different manager I suspect he's 3rd choice. As long as he pans out its money well spent to solidify the position ahead of Branthwaite leaving. We have been short on CBs for some time.
