Jagielka Injury

Its obviously not a thread saying its good hes injured, what i'm saying is that it could prove to be a positive if Heitinga comes in to partner Distan, as we need a ball player at the back. Moyes was quoted on the OS yesterday saying he hopes to have them(Jags or Heitinga) fit for boxing day, I know Jagielka is out for a month but i'm not sure what the situation with Heitinga is.

Having Distan and Jagielka has been a problem for us this season, both good defenders but cannot pass the ball and look uncomfortable on the ball, who both resort to the big hoof if there isnt a 5 yard pass available. Think of the best defences in the world, they all consist of a no nonsense centre half and a ball player, Barcelona have Puyol and Pique, United Vidic and Ferdinand, Real Madrid Pepe and Carvalho. Last year we had a brilliant second half to the season, and who were our centre halves? Heitinga and Distan. Having a ball player at the back improves our football massively!

Heitinga's injured.

Heitinga's injured.

Let's say it again, just in case the message isn't getting through. Heitinga's injured and isn't particularly motivated to be here anyway. This is a disaster and there's no good way to spin this. Add a CB to our loan wishlist. Fukin' hell.

I completely disagree about Distin, mate. Distin isn't afraid to take people on, and it's not unusual to see him make a burst forward too. And at the end of the day, you want an attacking edge for your fullbacks, but center backs are center backs; defending is almost all of their game, and that should be the priority.

I have always liked Distin myself...He's been pretty consistant and have been surprised about the amount of stick he gets on here...

Distain is defo growing on me.

He sometimes looks like he has bad co-ordination. (being a big lad and all that)

BUT.

He's fast, physical, powerful, relatively injury free, hard working, good attitude, and seems to be able to take people on...(this is the only question mark in my book, as defenders taking people on can lead to having your pants pulled down if no-ones covering)..He also scored a nice goal off his thigh.

He reminds me of Crouch -- he looks weird and out of place with the ball at his feet.

But if you actually watch him, and what he does, you see he knows what he's doing. Rarely loses it, and dummies players all the time. I was actually quite surprised when I first realised how good he is on the ball -- the complete opposite to Jags, in that respect.

I was just gonna write that. I used to get a lil scared when I saw him taking that extra touch, I just thought hoof it. But he's been playing some nice little passes of late, and he is a chuffin beast. Big shame about Jagielka, I think Hibbo will get the nod next to Distin for a little while

Probably. I do think Nev would be the better choice personally. Partly as I'd like to see Coleman at RB again, when chebe's back to play RW.

Out for a month. Could be a blessing in disguise in my opinion, Moyes would never drop Jagielka or Distan if both are fit, and we are crying out for a ball player at the back. Up to Heitinga to show his worth now...

anyone who says it's a blessing that Jags is injured is clearly not the sharpest tool in the box....

next thing, you'll be saying it's a blessing Cahill is going to the Asia cup cos he only scores goals with his head!

moron

If Duffy is fit and ready i'd throw him in, probably one of the easier strike forces to defend against. Zigic and Jerome, both offer power and decent hold up play but are fairly immobile and very poor in the air, particularly Zigic for someone knocking on 7ft. If it was against Tevez, Nasri or Drogba i'd be very worried but if our midfield pick up the runs of Bowyer and Gardner then Duffy or any other CB cover should'nt have a problem.

If Duffy is to make it, and being nearly 19 he should be looking at first team football soon this is a good opportunity to show his worth.
