Heard that so many times. Never saw much evidence of it.

Besides, isn't fitness the key element of a footballer's physical attributes? I wouldn't class his cheesestring hamstrings as a desirable physical attribute.

Tall, pacey, decent strength. When fit he glides around the pitch and was often described as a "rolls-royce" type of a player.

You're right though. If he can't stay fit then there's not much point to him as a footballer

I think he wants to flanking mobile midfeilders either side of a main anchoring central midfielder Barry/Gibbo. One will be Maccer i think the other may be Cleverly/Rodwell. Would give us the flexability to play 3-5-2 a system he likes.

Assuming Coleman and Baines are the two wide men of the five, this leaves no room for Barkley. Can't see this a s a workable solution to midfield for next season. Rodwell would only get a game as a direct replacement for Barry, and I don't think that would improve the team either.

I suppose, i made the point not looking at formation or a system as static, Boberto made the point recently about the fluidity of formation/system and how he sees this as the next evolution of this team - the ability to adjust to systems and formations during games and depending on the opposisition - he praticularly refrenced being able to change to a 3-5-2 if necessary. I think we will see it more at times next season praticularly with Kone coming back at the likely event of another striker that may make playing or changing to a 3-5-2 more acessable. He is excited about the ability of Stones, Distin and Jags to play that system apparently.

Yes, he certainly seems to favour a 3-5-2 and we have the right players on the wings to make this happen. The middle three should include McCarthy and Barkley, but at the moment we don't have a third player to make it work, with all due respect to Gibson.

Also people saying he has all the physical attributes.. that was his main detriment, he was afraid to use those attributes. And now that he is broken he can't even use them.

I see some people suggesting 5m would be a good investment. I find this an odd thing because we spent around the same on Arouna Kone (5-6m, we also have actually only paid 3m of this so far the rest come with different clauses) who had no previous injury worries, but unfortunately did get injured for us.. and people go ape-sh!t about that.

But then they seem so willing to spend 5m on a player who has literally only managed 15 games in two years. I just don't understand.

Martinez could do wonders to him, as he did with Naismith for example. Ideal long-term replacement for Barry IMO, I would gladly take him back for a small fee.

People are willing to change to our weakest 3 5 2 just to slot him back.
We are everton!! Not Rodwerton ffs!

What can he contribute to us? No pace, awful tackling, poor positioning, no vision and never ever attempt any through ball. Even Osman can offer more playing as a defensive midfield. what about the plan for baines to convert to DM? What about the development of lundstrum and ledson?

Good grief.

He's absolutely bang average.

One of the best bits of business we did under Moyes was getting 13-15m for him and that's saying something.

If we sign him i will be very disapointed with Martinez.

All these "shall we have him back" threads are a bit pathetic if they are serious, Everton can do better and so can Martinez. The worse thing we can do is get a player like Jack on loan because we are limited to the amount of loans we can have.

He did look better in his last season here. I'd take him in loan and see whether Martinez can make anything of him.

Definitely not buy him though. Knowing our luck his hamstrings would explode the second after he signs the contract.
