Was bought by citeh on the back of him marking David Silva out of the game when we played them.

It's a bit of a myth that. He kept Silva unusually quiet for large stretches at a time when Silva was in the form of his life, but they still beat us 2-0 and Silva got both of the assists.

It was probably his best 90 minute performance for us, but he still had his kecks pulled down twice.

P.S. "Too much Birkdale not enough Kirkdale" is absolutely golden and I'm going to be using it all the time from now on.

I might be wrong but didn't Silva move position before the two goals and Neville should have been the one closing him for both? Or certainly at least one.

That's not how I remember it but you might be right mate. Can't claim to have watched the match recently.

He had another bright moment against City the year before (I think) when we beat them 2-0 at the Etihad. Came off the bench and provided the assist for the winner with an impressive run down the right. All of his best moments seemed to come against the top sides in the league, not sure what that says about him as a player.

No I haven't either, just remember Neville not closing down on the edge of or area for one at least.

Arteta goal. Was quality that, showed what we could do under Moyes. Shame we didn't do it more often.

Think it probably says he got bullied by the more physical sides though. Needs to work on that. I don't think he's a great signing for Sunderland though. They really need someone who can come in and hit the ground running. He needs somewhere he can get his career going again.

Young,

Young, English, an international. I'd say it was a good deal - IF he can stay fit.
Fit being the operative word - JR had what they thought was a hamstring problem it then got reported it was his nerves in his back - hence he was out injured for us and hardly played for City I feel he ia an injury prone player I feel he got the injury on his debut for England!

Rodwell lost his advantage he had in his youth when everyone else grew to his size. Was an average player, made worse by Moyes's reluctance to give him his head and play more adventurously. His best game in recent years was his England debut, when he was clearly told to get forward. No coincidence. Certainly as a defensive MF he loses his man too often.

Hadn't considered that, but if he is included in their CL squad (reduced in size due to FFP altercations) what happens when he goes to the MLS in December or whenever it is? I believe they have to name 4 homegrown players in their CL squad of 20 or 24 or whatever number it is now under the punishment, say Lampard goes and he was the 4th homegrown name on the list would it mean they have to buy another homegrown player or forfeit that place in the squad?
My concern in all of this is that City could end up backed into a corner and have to fight their way out of it the only way they know how, by throwing big bucks about and lets face it, theres a lot of clubs that would cut their own brothers throat to get the likes of McCarthy, Barkley and Stones.

Good luck to him. Was worried Rodwell had hit upon hard times when I saw him pop up in X-Art scenes but nice to see he's getting back to football.

Wish him well. He played well for us and always gave his best. He had great potential, but unfortunately for him he went to a club that didn't have the time to let players develop in Peace. He got thrown into the heat, found lacking and therefore got shunted down the peckingorder. Hope for his sake that a move to a club fighting in the lower part of PL will do him good and he can find his game again... preferably by scoring the winners in both leaguegames against ManC.

So I was right 2 years ago - here's a fresh prediction; he'll be a marque transfer for Nottingham Forest or Middlesbrough in two or three years time for around £2.5m.

Ridiculous fee really. £10m for a player who's made 16 league appearances in 2 seasons.

Having said that I think he could be good if he ever escapes the prison that is his own head, and good luck to him. Not like he forced his way out is it?
