Maybe we are far more skint than we expected to be?
Look at who we have been linked with...freebies/loans like Keane, kyle walker, coufal, grealish, coleman, etc.

I think this is it, not sure why, maybe stadium debt is coming into play but re-signing Keane and Harrison are horrible moves for any club with a decent amount of cash to spend.

They'll still be on a decent wage and are not premier league quality (even as backups) and in Keane's case drags down the level of everyone around him.

I’m not too bothered about Keane - he’s effectively 4th choice centre back.

Buying Harrison however would start the alarm bells ringing that we haven’t got a clue what we are doing.
The market for wingers is huge.
Signing Harrison is lazy at best, negligent at worst.

We don't know how well Tarkowski will recover,so then Keane could be third. Just needs another injury or suspension then... Our new owners, ambitious or happy with mid table mediocrity.

One they won't come and two we remain unable to compete financially for several reasons not clear to me. The target for this season must be to consolidate around mid table and hopefully press on from there later.

If every rumour that has come out since the end of the season was true then we would have a squad about three times the size of the Chelsea squad and that is saying something.

One after one we are seeing the players rumoured to be joining Everton going elsewhere, sometimes we are happy about this, sometimes not.

I really don't remember DY saying much about Jack Harrison during the season apart from needing more goals from him and Lindstrom.
Harrison scored the week after that iirc , but didn't score again.

David Moyes has worked with the player for half a season and knows what he is like, more than any target this summer he will have a well informed opinion.
It would certainly not be an exciting signing but maybe a practical one.
Certainly there would have to be a cut in wages but I would think Harrison would jump at the chance of joining Everton on a more permanent contract, I expect Leeds would be delighted to be shut of him.

It is certainly a deal that I think would be easy to put together but none of us know if there is any interest at all on our side.

Maybe a deadline day deal at a real cut price?

The logic will be pretty much the same: we need investment in other areas and the budget is tight. I mean, we need a right back as much as we need a winger, but that didn't stop many defending the Seamus deal.

The reason some of us fretted over the Coleman and, especially, Keane deals was the message they sent out: we really don't have the bandwidth or time to upgrade these positions given our more obvious needs elsewhere. So, my take now is Harrison, if it happens, is simply part of the same inevitable playbook. It is what it is.

If we leave it until 1 minute to midnight, hopefully Leeds will pay us to take him off their hands.

I disagree - Coleman and Keane are bench warmers - Harrison would be our RW if signed. I 100% think it is bollocks though

Don't agree regarding Keane: no transfer fee involved, no signing on fee and as back up decent enough.
Harrison on the other hand I would not understand. Surely there is better available for a similar price (assuming we can't invest as much) or try the loan market later

If we get Harrison and Grealish I'll be happy. Provided we strengthen in full backs, centre mid and centre forward.
We have a threadbare squad. Harrison is nowhere near as bad as some are making out. Bit frustrating granted but he's hardly playing with world beaters. Compared to some of the rubbish we've seen - Gbamin, Delph, Klaasen even Lindstrom he is much more reliable.
We don't have the dough or pulling power for top 6 players yet - coming from the last 5 years of dross we've had to endure.
Tete choosing to stay at Fulham sums our current position up. I mean - when Brighton, Fulham, Wolves, Bournemouth, Brentford, Palace, Forest, West Ham - even Burnley etc are preferable then it says a lot about where we sit in the current PL.
For all that I hope the Friedkins can be cute with our PSR and spending. I do think we'll have some decent signings as we get closer to KO - but for now Harrison - but especially Grealish would not be a problem for me.
