I think it's just that people see that we are super light in that role + Barry may not sign + we're going to be in Europe + how important that role is to us and add it all up that we'll be in for a DM this summer. Then they pick fairly reasonably priced British players because they're lazy and that has been Everton's MO for a long time.

Wouldn't read into it that Barry isn't coming as well.

Rumours Barry will sign for city s mls franchise are floating around

Could be as well.

I just don't think the CDM to Everton rumors are based that Barry won't be signing. More that it's jarg journo's looking for easy stories and that's a clear position of need, Barry or non.

Think whether Barry is signing is a different thing entirely.

Barry is still a top premiership player and is having a wonderful season.
Why would a player who is at the top of his game in one of the bigger leagues leave
to go to a retirement home

At that price looks to be a useful addition to the squad for next season when we may need numbers. Also could be an effective replacement for Barry is a season or two.

Barry is 33, Osman is also old, so regardless of Barry signing or not CM will still need bodies and legs. Cork is a good player, only young too, for £3m he's welcome here any day of the week.

I'd rather we bought somebody to push the axis of awesome of GarBar and Mcarthy to new heights and deputise for them if and when than try and shoehorn some 15m quid talent in at the expense of one of our two most consistent performers. But then I am a sentimental fool tbf.

This. Our central midfield has been one of the best aspects of our team this year, so there really isn't any need to make any big changes. Gibson will hopefully pick up from where he left off and that for me leaves us with one space for a younger/unproven player. We don't need to be spending big money on a central midfielder.

3million for a squad player in a position where we are relatively thin on the ground seems too good to be true.

I'd agree if I was still talking to you.
I think my priorities would lie with obviously a striker and maybe a left winger of real quality/creative midfielder to alternate with Barkley every so often. I vote Tadic as I know @bluestevon likes him. And I like @bluestevon .

What you on about you utter blouse?

Yes striker is paramount and another attacking midfielder in the mould of Pienaar/Osman. We need a new back up right back too.

Get your tongue out of @bluestevon 's hoop.

Yeah, there aren't many half decent back up right backs I can think of really. Stones should never play there ever again I don't think. I'd love Clyne but he's far too good to be a back up and Coleman is too good to rotate to accommodate.
I only agreed with @bluestevon . I don't love @bluestevon . He is a nice guy though and has a pretty smile.

Ideally I'd like a young up and coming right back to give Coleman that extra push (not that he needs it) and give him some competition. I was going to say Clyne actually, as he seems to have lost his place to Chambers now. Better to be a back up here than at Southampton, but he'd probably cost too much for a back up. I saw someone mention Naughton from Spurs recently, he's been a bit crap when I've seen him but maybe he could improve under a good manager. Stones looks half the player at RB.

@bluestevon is a good lad to be fair, despite what @Bungle says about him.
