I wrote a piece the other day entitled " All Together Now 2011 " and in it , I sung the praises of the video that showed us what it meant to be a Blue, through the ages - right up to the recent Chelsea game and how it empowered us all and made us feel that belief in our great club.
That video did two things for me - it showed us, not only what we did achieve but what we CAN with the current squad. But , and not to sound like one of the 'old heads' you always meet in pubs who waxes lyrical about Albert Cocklethwaite, who may or may not of played for us in during one winter in 1951 and that no one is around these days, fit to even lace his boots. No, I mean the likes of Duncan Ferguson, Lee Carsley, Thomas Graveson; players who may not be on any FIFA Player of the Year short list, or even on the back of many shirts.. but they gave 100% every game regardless of who it was.
Remember how you used to feel when you saw Dunc getting stripped off ready to come on and unsettle their defence - You could feel ya fists clench and ya heart pumping " Go 'ed Duncan, lad.. Get stuck in !"" and My God, he did! Now, you see Anichebe getting stripped off and your heart sinks and it shouldn't be that way, but sadly, he's all we have right now if Beckford's having an off day
I watched Anichebe on Tuesday night and I think he won 1 out of a possible 9 headers that he went for.. The man's a disgrace.
