Is Darren Bent really worth £20m more than the Yak ?

I do see your point, but he's managed to stay injury free and is constantly scoring near enough 20 goals a season at a guess? Plus he's half Yak's age....
 
I would have thought it was obvious whats gone on with Bent.

Villa feel they're in a genuine relegation battle - signing Bent even for stupid money will keep them in the league, which is financially a far way better off than being in the Championship.

However, they won't have a penny to spend in the summer. They've basically blown two years of transfer budgets on one player to ensure immediate Premier League survival.

It's either sensible or suicidal, and we'll only know two years from now.

I think constantly is a bit misleading - he did it once for Sunderland but didn't when he was at Spurs - he's ok, but he never strikes me as the most consistent striker around - he missed a number of good chances at the weekend

Last time we had Bent up front we finished 4th...i think.

Last time we spent 24m on players, we bought Heitinga, Bily, and Distin...which is better than one big flop.

Heitinga wants out, Bily rarely gets a game, and Distin has been pretty solid. Such are the gambles of signing footballers.

Houllier is probably working out all the points they are going to earn from Bent's goals...:unsure:

I think any sane football fan will tell you Suarez is by far the more talented player. Aside from his WC antics.

Player valuations are getting ridiculous, and it's getting worse.

£3m for Pienaar, but £20m for Bent??????

Laughable.

Pienaar is only 2 years older than Bent.
 
Every player has his price. Van der Vaart cost 8 million I think, but he wouldn't have joined Villa, same as Suarez really. I think if they're being realistic, Bent is someone that would join them, but yeah he is overpriced at 18m, let alone the 24m that's been mooted (never used that word before, felt good). So no, Bent is not not worth more really in terms of how good a player he is, just don't think there's many other better options out there for Villa.

I think someone told me he was the 3rd highest premiership scorer over the past 3 seasons? My near 20 goals a season stat was totally made up, but I bet it's not a million miles wide of the mark =)
 
Has scored more than 20 league goals once - last year (He did score 22 in his first season at Charlton but only 18 in the league)
