Is being out of Europe this year going to help us get a CL berth? Trophy?

I love watching us in Europe, but trying to fight on four fronts last year with all the injuries clearly hurt us in all areas. I'm not one of those who thinks the Europa League isn't worth it, because it is. But in this one case, with our deepest ever squad (at least recently), if we can stay *relatively* injury free, it might be better if we're not.

Also, do you think Moyes will play full strength teams in the Carling Cup or use it as a chance to continue to blood youngsters and give guys like Mucha and others some valuable playing time, since it seems like every damn year we have to go deep into the bench at certain times due to injuries?

just need to start the bloody season flying (for once) and then finish it like we have been doing the last few years! then we could be right up the top end of the table!

all about the start for me!

I hope it does, but personally I'd prefer to see us playing in the Europa (thing). If we are to prentend to be the real thing then playing an extra 15 games a season in Europe has to be the norm and we have to have the squad available to do so. The good news is that we appear to be getting strength in depth which should help in Europe, ManU always blood their youngsters in there and I hope we get teh chance to do the same next year.

It's a worring paradox for us - *season 1 goal = win a trophy push top 4 for euro birth to attract potentially better players - *season 2 goal = compete in euro competion extra games affect league/domestic cup sucess, extra games increase injury list - fail in euro competion/ lose euro birth after league slump potentially better players get cold feet with lack of euro carrot - season 3 (see season 1)???? :(

Personally I expect us to do much better in the league this season and reclaim a Europa cup birth at least, but the only way we will ever break the cycle is when the home grown talent finally blossoms Rodwell, coleman, Garbutt etc.. - trying to buy a place in the top four will never be a long term answer I fully expect Sky four gatecrasher's Spurs to have a major *Season 2 this year.

Lots of new players to get settled in. Can't see much team chemistry there for a while.

So far there hasn't been that many new faces in City, definately not compared to last season. I actually think they will do well this season, unfortunately. But it depends on how many new faces they bring in before the window closes. A lot of new faces might bring discontent among the ones bought last season that suddenly face themselves becoming a substitute when they were starters last season.

But to turn back to the thread i can see us fighting for 4:th if you look at the current squads, if our squad stays fit and healthy. But it might be a completely different story when the window closes.

Not being in europe is definitely gonna help our cause this season. A lot of people on here have suggested if we go relatively injury free we may go close at the top but i still feel we are 2 or 3 players short of having a top quality squad, i.e, right winger, top level striker and a back up left full capable of stepping into baines' shoes if hes unavailable. I think a run at top 4 is on, a europa league spot is a real possibility but where i feel we will really benefit this year with no euro action is in the domestic cups. I,m gonna put money on us to win the league cup and fa cup(not both of them in the 1 season but you never know).

Moyes keeps talking about the need to win silverware, i think he will see this year as the season to target the cups. You may even see big players rested in league games prior to league cup games, which sounds crazy but that league cup is up for any club who puts their mind to it, as most prem teams play reserves or blood younsters.

Not to mention a Carling Cup trophy is automatic entry into Europe...win that and it doesn't really matter where we finish outside the top four.
