I think that is indiicative of the forum itself, and life in general.
Society in general is less tolerant than it used to be, or perhaps more accurately - the intolerant have a much louder voice than they used to.
I have to agree with this and the original premise of this thread.
Partly as a result of social media, people seem to increasingly only associate with those of the same opinion, and only read stuff that's in line with their beliefs. Consequently, opinions get more and more extreme and almost fanatical. Given the lack of exposure to people with different opinions, and two dimensional nature of social media (it's a lot easier to hate an online username than genuinely lovely Julie in the office who happens to have a daft opinion of something), it seems that those disagreeing with us are either total idiots, or are simply bad.
As, a result of all this, any group of like minded individuals confronted by someone with a different opinion, will be much more likely to group together, point, and shout, "Burn the witch!" than try to reason with the odd one out, and most definitely not open mindedly consider whether there might be at least some element of validity in what they say. If we can't manage to be more tolerant on societal or political matters, let's at least all resolve to try and not insult other posters with a different idea of who should be playing in the team, and in what position, eh, guys?
