Interesting article about Bill Shankly

They treated him like dirt after he left, its nice to know we could help and let him in! Shows the appreciation of club and fans alike toward football fans from all walks of life!

Shankly was always a great character and although Harry Catterick was just as great a manager in terms of winning he was never as close to the fans as Shankly.

Shankly lived next door to Bellefield and the club and players apparently welcomed him because quite frankly he was a warm and passionate football man with a sense of humour.

For those of us on here who were around at the time, even though we still hated the RS, we all probably respected Shankly. Well I did anyway.

He made some comments about Everton, but they were probably tongue-in-cheek. He understood the feeling for football on Merseyside , and the friendly rivalry. He was , I believe, at Goodison the day Dixie Dean died. He took insults from Evertonians and accepted them as part of his job. His love for football and respect for other clubs can't be doubted. As the RS manager , he never ****ged off Everton. Unlike a recent Spanish bloke

Yeah, I think Benitez caused alot of animosity, maybe the relationship between the two clubs will become a little more respectful now.

The thing I liked about the article is just that he was mad about football, the addict thing. I also remember reading the quotes when he said some really nice things about dixie.

‘Dixie was the greatest centre-forward there will ever be,' Bill Shankly said at a celebratory dinner on the day of his friend's death. ‘He belongs to the company of the supremely great, like Beethoven, Shakespeare and Rembrandt.'
