Make no mistake. Everton have endured an inferiority complex in years gone by. Instilled from years of enduring constant ramblings of resources, knives to gunfights and other rubbish. Plucky Everton, punching about our weight and having to endure a patronising pat on the head from a magnificent 7th league position.

So it's very refreshing to see some changes Roberto Martinez has instructed at Finch Farm... [Click Here]

The theme is very easy to spot - one of winning. Brilliant to see.

Do you really think he personally asked for that?

It needed doing, it really, really did.

I wrote something to this effect last year, about clubs being beaten before going on the pitch at Anfield due to the overwhelming feeling of history and presence at the club, regardless of the dross they're actually playing, many of whom were empowered by the culture of the club.

We had NONE of that under Moyes. As Dan says, the "plucky little Everton" suited Moyes to the ground because it took every ounce of pressure to succeed off him and gave him the safest job in world football.

100% certain of it. It's the latest in a line of things that indicate a root and branch culture shift at Everton. It's about damn time.

Looks ace, the sort of thing needed to instill a sense of pride. Sometimes words just don't cut it the same way as a picture can.

It comes from us too. I read the 'Henry' thread & cringed. When we need pundits to validate what we already know, it smacks of an inferiority complex.

I don't care if we're in the papers or not tbh, I know where to go to read about my team.

I imagine that the young foreign lads especially didn't know a lot about our history. It's great that Roberto has really bought into it and the way that he talks about playing with arrogance and not feeling inferior to other CL hopefuls because of our past achievements.

A couple of questions:

How good is Roberto at marketing his "personal brand"? Uh-huh. I agree - he's superb. He was all over American coverage of the last couple of major international tournaments, because is so good in front of a camera, and so technically clear when he talks about the game.

How would that translate to Everton football club, now that he is the gaffer? Roberto and Everton will leverage each other to more success, if he can execute his plan.

A club takes on the mentality of its boss, and this is such a positive (there's that word again) move. Play a positive game, think positive thoughts, look for the possibilities, and teach your history in a positive manner. To change the old narrative, you have to shape a different narrative, and this guy is smart enough to identify the quality within the history of Everton football club. Make that the foundation of the future. Be relentless with it, and make it part of the world you see at Finch Farm everywhere you look. It's a beautiful history, just look at it.
