I doubt it too. Even if they did -- which they won't as VDW isn't half the player -- then Abate would still be out of our reach.

He's a top modern fullback -- good defensively, offensively, quick as lightning and he's also got his best years ahead of him.

True, but also think there aren't that many suitors for Heitinga atm, after the disastrous Euro's for the Dutch. At least not from the better/bigger clubs than Everton.
