I was thinking about this when I saw that Andy Kan had retired. So who would you have back of the ex-Everton players who are still playing?

My choice would be:

He's the only one I can think of that we've let go that would strengthen our team. Most of the players who have left haven't gone on to better things. Speed perhaps, but he's too old now.

I'm just basing it on ability, rather than personality.

rooney in for cahill sadly, although i can never see it happening now, the passing and technical brilliance of herr-judas combined with johnnos out and out pace would see our attacking options flourish.

but besides 'once a blue now a red', dacourt could still do a job.

hmm.... good one, thing is most of the ones moyes has gotten rid of with the exception of rooney have gone downhill since leaving anyway so...

I'd probably say nobody. ferrari maybe?

IS ISRAEL RIGHT FOR AJ?

According to a report in the Daily Express (Thursday, February 15) Steve McClaren is ready to make sweeping changes to his England side for the forthcoming Euro 2008 qualifier against Israel in Tel Aviv.

And, as part of his changes, the story suggests Everton's Andy Johnson is being lined up to lead the England attack whilst Bayern Munich's Owen Hargreaves will be fast-tracked back into the side after a lengthy spell on the sidelines with a broken leg.

McClaren is apparently keen to do away with the impression that certain England players are untouchable - something that seemed to build-up during Sven Goran Eriksson's reign at the helm.

The Express believes McClaren is set to mimic Everton's favoured 4-4-1-1 formation, with Johnson as the lead forward and Wayne Rooney in the Tim Cahill role. Hargreaves is seen as the ideal man to hold the midfield together - the Lee Carsley job - allowing Frank Lampard and Steven Gerrard to act as more offensive midfielder playmakers - Leon Osman and Mikel Arteta.

Having been given little opportunity to show his true worth on the international stage, bar a couple of outings as a wide man, is a crucial game like the one in Israel the right time to place the weight of the nation on the shoulders of AJ?

Would such a move benefit Everton?
