Some of you on here have short memories; judging two players based on their most recent international performances.

The fact is that this past season Gueye carried us through multiple matches we should have lost by controlling the middle of the pitch. Without his efforts relegation would have been a serious possibility.

Highlighting one play from an international fixture where he reasonably assumed his goalkeeper would save it does not change his body of work for EFC.

He deserves this fan bases support in what is likely a very difficult moment in his career. This why we can’t have nice things.

He has never controlled a game of football in his Everton career. That’s simply not his game I don’t mean that in a derogatory manner against him but he simply isn’t that type of player

Remember when Fellaini would come in, bully someone off a ball, put in a ridiculous bit of skill then release someone with a lovely ball?

Can’t ever really remember Gueye doing that.

Fellaini was a brilliant player. Anyone who prefers Gueye has a fundamental misunderstanding of football.

After watching how dreadful he was in the last 2 games for Senegal, I've never been more convinced we need to cash in and replace him with someone who can play a disciplined role for the team, and complete basic passes.

There's at least 7-8 other players I'd rather see get the boot than Idrissa.

Will be a good option for us.

They were having to defend the whole time - waves of attacks = higher chance of an interception occurring at some point in the game.

No one is saying he doesn't tackle - he just does absolutely nothing with it afterwards.
Ah, that makes sense.

If you think Fellani or Gueye play the same position, or SHOULD play the same position, you probably shouldnt be commenting...(continuing the current theme of the thread)

Laughing at people trying to defend Gueye for what was just sheer laziness. He may not have got to the shot but he should at least try ffs. Anyone defending him has blue tinted glasses on.
I don’t know what Gueye was thinking while striking that pose from an Abercrombie and Fitch catalogue, but the keeper was significantly more at fault than he was as the ball was in his vicinity. If there was anything to blame him for, that isn’t it. Pickford would be on the receiving end of a mauling if he let that go.

I don't see how you could watch him last night and come to that final assessment, you could build your team around and have success as we did, but he is far more flexible than you are giving him credit for in my opinion

I have watched him play loads for us in games that are not between two reserve sides in a dead rubber game to be fair!

He's alright.
