2025/26 Idrissa Gana Gueye

I think Gana’s bread and butter for years was the tackle and then quick reads to push ahead. Now if he misses the tackle, he’s slower to drop back. Then it falls to Tarkowski. I’m glad we have him. I rate him. I just hope players like Rohl have a break out year and show us a glimpse of life after Gana.

I think people are being a little harsh on him personally. He didn’t have a good game don’t get me wrong, but he had a lot of the ball. He’s not a playmaker so he will make errors when he’s on the ball as much as he was tonight, that’s a tactical issue more than an individual one.

He made far too many sloppy passes last night. Even really easy ones were so called 'hospital passes'.

I don’t disagree, but he made too many passes in general that’s my point. Certainly over the first 60/70 minutes I would say he had far more of the ball than any of our other players and that isn’t a good thing. He’s not a good passer of the ball, if you ask him to make 100 passes in a game a fair few of them are going to be sloppy. It’s not a good tactic to have him as the one dictating the play from the middle and he was last night.
