Compared to Kante on here in the past.

Utterly comical.
When we sold him to PSG he was an excellent player.

He is no longer that player - like how Kante is no longer the player that won Chelsea and Leicester titles, and France the World Cup.

Kante was always better than Gueye, of course.

He hasn't been helped by the ludicrous midfield structure but he's also been incredibly sloppy.

Let’s not rewrite history here, he was a very good player in the context of the role he played and pretending he wasn’t is just weird. He’s now 33 and no longer able to play the same way, which unfortunately makes the deficiencies in his game more apparent. That, allied to playing in a shambolic set up that Zinedine Zidane would struggle to shine in, has meant that his return has been a failure.
This.

But some people never liked him as a player, for some reason.

He was very good at what he was good at. He's still quite good at it, but he's definitely got worse at what he was bad at.

He was an OK player.

Nothing really to dislike, but nothing special.

We had PSG's kecks down with the fee they paid, but then went and ruined it by giving them 1/3 of it back.

It's not really surprising that our entire system under Silva went to crap when he left, like.

We also didn't pay PSG £10m.

It was about £3-4m total. Never got close to £10m.

He was massively overrated by our fans in his first spell here. He was a good tackler but absolutely hopeless on the ball. Somehow he seems to have got even worse in possession, he just looks so sloppy and careless. Teams can sit off and wait for him to give away the ball in a perfect counter attacking position.

The big loss was that Gareth Barry retired just after Gueye was signed. He was better than Gueye in possession and off the ball.

If only Barry was still playing now. He would put the team to shame...

I would consider playing Davies ahead of him after today. His touch from the Davies cross was woeful! He does win the ball back well, but we need better passing in the centre. We need to find a way to score more goals and Gana won’t help us do that

All true but Barry didn't retire, he had a couple of seasons at West Brom where he did ok although his future career as a Taxi driver went to pot.

Clearly not the player he was, but he could definitely still do a job in a properly structured and set up team.

He’s not being asked to do what he is good at in the side currently, and he seems to be trying to do everything due to his teammates deficiencies and is paying the price, which was never his game to start with. Onana is young and iwobi is just iwobi.

Some of the revisionism about gana is laughable tbh - he was a quality holding, ball winning midfielder for us who were never properly replaced.

You don’t go to PSG and play (and boss some) champions league matches if you’re crap.
