This aged well. :bye:

It’s still relevant. We still get far too many injuries. Every game I anticipate that we’ll pick up a new injury.

Currently we have Godfrey Mina Holgate Patterson DCL out

Apart from Patterson is anyone confident on any return date for the others? Name one other team that would lose three CBs to long term injuries in two games.

It has to be sorted out.

Defo all the medical depts. fault them, aren't they?

I remember well the physio running on the pitch and breaking Godfrey's. leg. Didn't one of them also push Patterson over when he was playing for Scotland?

In all seriousness though mate, you need to let this thing go. It's a contact sport, and yes we've had some bad luck with injuries, but you go on like training will have been the same season after season, despite several new coaching teams coming and going.

We know nothing of what goes on behind the scenes, so you're assumption that something is amiss, is actually just that, a baseless assumption. So stop calling for root and branch inquiries when you have no knowledge of what's going on, nor any knowledge of staff or methods.

And fwiw, injuries appear to be on the rise across football anyway. And it's definitely not just us who gets affected by it...

Let’s just keep doing the same thing every year then. It’s not like we need to improve as a football club is it. Let’s just put it all down to chance and pure bad luck and not attempt to take any proactive accountability for it whatsoever. Brilliant approach.

Well said.

Don't think it is.
And we get fast too many injuries compared to who? Where's your evidence for this?

But you've got no idea if we're doing the same things. None at all.

In fact, we've been one of the least stable clubs in the league. If you honestly think new managers and coaches just come in and make everybody "crack on as normal", then I'm gobsmacked.

Of course, we should always strive for excellence in every dept. But the players look fit enough out on the pitch, and that's the only metric we can use.

Mina was always fragile and then finally ruined by being put back in the lineup much too quickly when Benitez was trying to keep his job.

Godfrey broke his leg in a tackle.

Patterson twisted his ankle in a game for Scotland

Not sure what you want to club to do about those...

We currently have 6 players out injured, the same as 5 other premier league teams with 3 others within +/- 1 of that. So completely in the middle.

Last season we were 12th in the table for days lost to injuries. So, again, completely in the middle

I'm looking for numbers for the last 5 years, but I suspect they'll tell the same story.

EDIT: This wasn't last season it was 20/21. I've got a really good stat pack for last season now. Will crunch it and let you know.

Didn't Benitez fire the head of the medical team and bring in his own guy? Lampard hired a conditioning coach too. Are they all doing the same things? Or is it just that we naturally focus on our own issues and ignore those at other clubs?

Quite interesting doing that and @Saint Domingo may have a point based on last season in isolation.

Everton ranked 18th for total number of injuries, 19th for days lost to injury, 19th for games missed, 18th for Injuries per 90 minutes and 16th for days per injury.
You have to wonder what the causes of that are.

It may well be something about how we train, but it also may speak to historical issues that are no longer present, or it may be a reflection of the individual physiologies of the players in the squad.

Certainly from the outside, and not being a sports scientist, it's very hard to say.

Long term injuries really hit hard on those metrics though. If I look to the RS in 20/21 they're way out ahead on minutes lost thanks to Van Dijk getting put out for the whole season after not so many games.

20/21 we were 18th for total injuries, 14th for days lost, 18th for injuries per 90 and 14th for days per injury. What I did note, though is how volatile the stats are. Teams have wild swings. Palace for example were 2nd worst for minutes lost in 20/21 and the best last season.

Oddly the Howdens league table of injuries places us 8th in the Prem last season.
