I go to a football game to watch football.

I've been going to Evostik league games this season and will carry on next season. It's usually £8 to get in and you can get a pint in the clubhouse and take it on the terracing or in the stand.

It's sound. Plenty of friendly oppo fans to talk to and have a pint with. That said, went to Scarborough a few weeks back and they wouldn't let you take ale out of the bar. Also quite a few whose DVD shelf clearly has a Green St section.

Utter Brexiteer Tories there though so it's no surprise.

If Palace got relegated they'd soon stop. They wouldn't be on MotD then.
They were there long before the PL and will be long after.
PS. Championship, Leagues 1 & 2 and National League are on TV every week.
I'm a bit meh about them myself but they can get the whole ground going during games. It's very fashionable to knock them now, particularly from the "you never needed none of that in mah day" brigade.

When I go to the match, I generally spend my time gossiping. I’d be fully behind a ‘gossiping section’ so that your conversation isn’t interrupted by some nearby lout shouting his support for the team every 2 minutes!

At least no one in the UK has resorted to vuvuzelas yet. With all due respect to cultural differences, just stfu and watch the game ya irritants. Ruined that world cup for me.
They definitely brought up the level of the crowd in the pitchside mics for that whole competition just to have a gimmick with the vuvuzelas. Awful stuff.

Plus it’s so utterly phony. It’s like that bird that posts on Instagram about her dead good life, but you know she’s an absolute misery a**e in reality. It’s how I perceive those fans.

... but these organised ‘shows of support ’ are the worst things ever. Sit down and watch the football.

I have no idea what you're on about. Just watch this totally organic, shoot-from-the-hip, unembarrassing, we-didn't-rehearse-this group of supporters. They are obviously selfless in what they do. This is an unawkward easy-to-watch display.

i saw some people saying footballs gone becuase they posted pics from anfield showing rs can order food and drinks to their seat, bit mad really to say thats a reason for me

My grandad doesnt like walking down the concourse and the rush to get served at half time etc so for people in his situation its perfect.

People want to be entertained whereas when I regularly went it was to support the team, it seems to cool for school now (or kopite behaviour) to sing, encourage the team and get the atmosphere going. Went to work in that there London early 90's and have never had a ST since due to marriage, kids, money issues etc. but I'm sure we used to sing a lot more. Maybe the singing went out of style about the time we stopped winning or competing for stuff, dunno, but I find it a shame as I am sure the players enjoyed 40 odd thousand fans singing their names. The onus now seems to be (for all teams) play well and we the fans will make a shape else we will be quiet take selfies and moan.

Sparked off by a bit on the BBC about Man Utd vans wanting to alter the layout of the stadium in order to create some sort of atmosphere.

What is the fascination with ‘atmosphere’ at clubs and artificially generating it? I get the whole principle of the 12th man and all that, but it seems to be this odd school of thought that unless your singing and jumping round like a 6 year old on a sugar rush you aren’t a real fan and you’re harming the team.

Personally, I’m there because I want to see a game live, there’s just a connection that’s intangible with actually being there. I’m not there to be a ‘dead good fan’ and go through the song book because some mouthbreather decides that’s what fans need to do.

Don’t get me wrong, when the crowd is roaring then it’s an amazing experience, but it’s always at it rawest when it comes off the back of action on the pitch inspiring the crowd, rather than the other way.

People go on about the amazing atmosphere that European fans create, but how much of the actual game do they see? Plus it’s so utterly phony. It’s like that bird that posts on Instagram about her dead good life, but you know she’s an absolute misery a**e in reality. It’s how I perceive those fans.

I’m not saying go to a game but sit there in silence, sing if you want, but these organised ‘shows of support ’ are the worst things ever. Sit down and watch the football.
I am as confused by grown men singing songs as i am as those who boo loudly, but each to their own. I go to get pissed and avoid my family.
