I feel different about next season than previous ones

Been thinking about next season and have noticed a subtle shift in my expectations.

Whenever we play Bolton, Stoke, Wolves et al - home or away - I'll be expecting us to win. Everytime.

Now I accept that we won't win 'em all. Some will be draws and a few will be losses. But generally, I've just realised that they are 'points in the bag' in my head.

That alone tells me how far we have come.

The thought that occurs to me now is: we have to step it up and beat the sky four at least at home this season.

At first, my heart sank when we got Arsenal at home on the first day. But the more I think about it, I say to myself 'yeah! bring 'em on! We take these lot...'

And, you know, I think we can.

That is, until I recall the cup final which - some will say - illustrated the size of the gap. Surely next season will be different? Surely we've learned from the bitterness of last May?

Is plus ca change or is it plus la meme chose?

Im thinking top four next season mate, with players coming back a few clever signings i think we can do it.

I wasnt thinking that after the end of last season.

Your deluded if you think we can break the top 4 with the current squad. Sorry, but no way on Earth.

dude, read every word in the sentence!

he mentioned some 'clever signings' to push us from 5th to 4th.

i don't think anyone here thinks we can get 4th with the current squad list.

I think it may come down to how well Arteta, Yak n Jags recover from their injuries. To miss those 3 again for a long period time will be difficult. We need to strenghten, but I agree I aint felt so optimistic since the heady days of the 80's

Happy now stalker boy?

Pretty much agree with this. If we can add players who can contribute to Everton FC, i reckon we're in with a good chance, we have a good balance and good stability but it's up to the board to back Moyes.

I go into every home game thinking we can win now, no matter who it is.

Agreed. I fully expect 3 points from every Home game.

Strange we can't raise the atmosphere at home sometimes.....There were games where it was so quiet. Can't knock the away suport though. Proud to be blue.

To be fair I've expected us to win every home game for about three years.

I felt the same at the end of last season, we needed one or two top quality signings to really go up a level. It didn't happen then, let's hope it's different this time.

I have faith mate. This team isnt finished growing, like i say a couple of clever signings and we could compete for a top four.

From November on this year we were one of the best teams in the League and finsihed three wins of Arsenal. With many of our "top players" back a clever signing or two, wholly confident Moyes has the ability to make up those 3 wins.

Theres no point if you dont have hope really!

Shows just how far we come under the regime of David Moyes and (yes I know it isn't too popular saying that on this board), Bill Kenwright. Can remember in the pre Kenwright era, looking at the fixture list before the start of the season, calcullating where to get the points to guide us to PL safety.

I agree with Neiler, that is possible to break into that top four next season, but everything has to go our way for that to happen. Have to shop wisely and bring in a couple of top quality players and also hope Yak, Arteta and Jags recover fully from their injuries.
