Been thinking about next season and have noticed a subtle shift in my expectations.
Whenever we play Bolton, Stoke, Wolves et al - home or away - I'll be expecting us to win. Everytime.
Now I accept that we won't win 'em all. Some will be draws and a few will be losses. But generally, I've just realised that they are 'points in the bag' in my head.
That alone tells me how far we have come.
The thought that occurs to me now is: we have to step it up and beat the sky four at least at home this season.
At first, my heart sank when we got Arsenal at home on the first day. But the more I think about it, I say to myself 'yeah! bring 'em on! We take these lot...'
And, you know, I think we can.
That is, until I recall the cup final which - some will say - illustrated the size of the gap. Surely next season will be different? Surely we've learned from the bitterness of last May?
Is plus ca change or is it plus la meme chose?
