This is true to be fair.

As soon we all start getting pissed off with Neville starting in midfield ahead of new signing Manny Fernandes, everything will be back to normal.

There's something in that analogy.
Everton/Scotland: have been great in the past, generally realistic about our prospects
Liverpool/England: living off past glories, delusional about current 'greatness', held back by conspiracies, always going to win it next time.

On reflection, I think there's more to the Liverpool/England part.
