Hypothetical scenario

If Roberto were to sit down with Barkley, Stones, Del and Rom and tell them "give me 3 seasons to build a team around you and if we aren't in the Champions league I'll let you go on a free" would you be happy to take the gamble?
It would be a ludicrous and unnecessary business risk and for even bringing it to the table I hope your worshipped God Farage get's hit by an actual Russian submarine tomorrow.

Great idea.

And if we don't get in the Champions League he could just say "well I didn't say it, good luck getting a free transfer lads."

The manager and the club have an interest in continuity but we have to have some regard for the reality of what is a marketplace.

Chelsea came for Stones and Roberto and the Board were able to head them off. That would not have happened 5 or 10 years ago.

However if lets say real Madrid or PSG came for say Barkley and offered 30 million we might fight that off but what if it was 60 million with a huge salary......we have to be realistic.

Ultimately the club like any cub has to be playing CL and paying the type of high end wage CL affords in order to keep truly top quality talent.

You bunch of miserable buggers! When your seeing 5 Yarmolenko threads a day next month you'll be nostalgic for your uncle dans blue sky thinking!

What would happen is that we would build a great team and finish 4th in the 3rd year but that would be the year that England loses it's 4th CL place.

To be honest i cant see us getting in the champions league anytime soon with Roberto. Never been a better chance than this season, best squad, Chelsea out of the running, United ain't that good, no one is running away, and we are hanging onto 9th by goal difference. Wont have a better chance and we cant keep the lead, Rom wont even be here in 2 years let alone 3 at this rate.
