Would you ever try it? Have you ever been hypnotised?

Saw one of them stage shows once where people get hypnotised and get told to cluck like a chicken or dance like Elvis. Proper funny like.

But is it real? Anyone know?

I went up and did one in Tenerife last year, certainly didn't work on me. Four out of the twelve of us seemed to be hypnotised, no idea if they were on the payroll!

The sort of people who go to watch hypnotism are the sort that will believe in hypnotism, so they're bound to go along with it

The one I saw was in Benidorm a few years ago. A guy at the bar later in the evening told me it was a con.

He said the hypnotist got these 5 fellas up on stage. He 'hypnotises' them and all their heads drop. Only one lasted until the end, so then he worked his magic. He puts his hand on one of the fella's shoulders, he turns his mic off for a second so that the crowd can't hear, and whispers 'Go along with what I say and I'll give you £50 afterwards'. So naturally the fella does what he says - pretends to be a chicken, dances like Mick Jagger, pretends to give birth, proper hamming it up.

At the end the hypnotist sits him back in the chair, puts him back 'in a trance', then says on the mic so that all the crowd can hear, "Oh and when you wake up, you will believe that I offered you £50 to take part in this show. Even when all your friends know that I did no such thing, you will insist that I did. Wide awake - you're back in the room!"

I was 1 of 12 selected on holiday for a hypnosis show, along with my mate who was very cynical. I felt I was going under but was desperate for the toilet so deliberately stopped paying attention to the guy doing the show, during his routine of getting you under. He told me to sit down and I turned round expecting to see my mate being told to do the same yet found him spark out on the floor hypnotised. He said it felt like a dream but he knew where he was yet couldn't wake up.

Pretty much this.

Hard to believe it until I see it for real. Which I can't be arsed to.

Like ghosts. I'll beleive they're real when I see one.

I'm not sure it's authentic when used as a form of entertainment, but it has been used successfully in the past as a cure for depression.

Sergei Rachmaninov to cite a famous example.
