Howard

and on those shots where Pepe stands tall and the shot goes low, he can't stop it then

it's one or the other... with the ball coming with that much pace, you have to pretty much guess correctly

Reina gets way, way too much credit.

Don't get me wrong, as a shot stopper, he's almost unrivalled. But people tend to remember these fantastic close range saves, but forget, and pay a lot less attention to, positional marking, aerial dominance and so on. He's rather poor in these aspects. You see him flapping at the ball and losing it all the time. Thankfully for him, he's usually got a very well marshalled defence in front of him. I hate to say it, but Carragher is a fantastic defender and a fantastic defensive organiser, much like Jags for us.

Now, Howard before this season has always been in the upper echelon of keepers for me. His shot stopping is quality, but not quite as good as Reina's. But in terms of aerial dominance, organisation and reading of the game, he tops Reina, for me. It's easy to forget Howard's strengths after a season with numerous poor moments for him, but perhaps he just needs a rest? He does seem to play non-stop.

To be honest whenever i see the rs i very rarely see Reina flapping at crosses, he seems pretty good constantly at them.

Of course sometimes he flaps but all keepers do but i think he was a huge part in their form the last few seasons especially when they finished 2nd.

I'd swap him for Howard in a heartbeat even before this season.

Yes mate, I'm seriously saying that and that's just my opinion.

Every goalkeeper makes mistake and I've also seen some howlers by Reina in the past. Just like Hart, Cech, Given etc...etc...

Yeah every keeper makes mistakes.

I think its been said on here regarding Howard that its not so much his out and out clangers but goals where you look at it and think he should of done better, jujst seems to have a lot of them.

Before i'd give him the beneift of the doubt but when you add that to actual howlers it really hurts him.

Says the guy who was going on about Howard because he chose wrong on a 50/50 goal keeping decision. If Reina had gone low against Van Persie then he would have missed it too.

Nah its cause Howard has a habit of flapping his arms and falling over backwards in certain situations, and the Reina save today reminded me of one such situation involving the same player.

Its doesn't make him crap but just makes me think he could of maybe done better in certain situations. And when you add mistakes to that it might be time for a change.

That baffles me mate it really does. What is it about him that you think hes good at?

Mate, with all due respect, but it's not the first time I wondered what you have against Howard. Most of the time, it seems like you actually hate the guy. Personally, think he's a very good goalkeeper with often tremendous reflexes. His weakest point is the commanding of his area, but he's improving in that with every season.

Maybe I'm overrating him, I don't know, but sure as hell a lot of you underestimate his ability. Would be madness to replace him, there are far more urgent positions that need to be looked at. Positions that would actually mean improvement.

Edit: Maybe we're just looking for soimething different in goalkeepers. I noticed, that quite a few don't rate Edwin van der Sar quite as highly as I do, but he's a legend in his home country. Probably the best goalkeeper we ever produced. Also, when talking to peeps over here about the English Premiership or Everton, Tim Howard always gets rave reviews.
