Reina gets way, way too much credit.
Don't get me wrong, as a shot stopper, he's almost unrivalled. But people tend to remember these fantastic close range saves, but forget, and pay a lot less attention to, positional marking, aerial dominance and so on. He's rather poor in these aspects. You see him flapping at the ball and losing it all the time. Thankfully for him, he's usually got a very well marshalled defence in front of him. I hate to say it, but Carragher is a fantastic defender and a fantastic defensive organiser, much like Jags for us.
Now, Howard before this season has always been in the upper echelon of keepers for me. His shot stopping is quality, but not quite as good as Reina's. But in terms of aerial dominance, organisation and reading of the game, he tops Reina, for me. It's easy to forget Howard's strengths after a season with numerous poor moments for him, but perhaps he just needs a rest? He does seem to play non-stop.
