The goal he gave up was horrible but besides that he did decent today. We could have easily lost 3-1 or 4-1.
He's not having a good season but he's not getting too much help either. I haven't seen a team worse than us on free kicks this year. Sad considering a few years ago we were probably the best team in the prem taking and defending free kicks.
But that's just it, he's there for when the outfield players can not effectively stop the ball from going towards the goal. It's his job to try and save the team from conceding, the last line of defence. When it comes down to the bare bones of it, it's a solo job that he has to deal with on his own.
Regardless of how often he's been exposed, he has shown himself to be consistently not up to saving the team in these circumstances, which was perhaps his defining positive attribute because it certainly wasn't his ability to deal with crosses or to save long shots.
His "good" games now seem to be when he makes routine saves that any Premier League keeper should be easily making and not making a serious error that costs us a goal.
