Howard

You really think Ruddy will come back? This whole playing first team football and getting called up by my country is boring, lads. Where's that nice bench I used to sit on.

He seems to be keeping Norwich in games. I know he's from that part of the world but if he has any ambition he's going to need to move to a bigger club. He'd never get in a Champions League side though. Maybe Lambert will look at taking him to Villa as Given's long-term successor?

Pretty sure Guzan is that guy.

And please, if you're going to bring up replacements, stop bringing up Vorm. He's just a smaller, worse version of Howard.

Vorm kept 13 clean sheets in 37 games for a Swansea side expected to get bummed and he has two shut outs in four matches this season. He is 3 inches shorter than Howard admittedly. Tim kept 15 clean sheets in 45 games for club and country last year, making Vorm's average slightly better.

Ok, so hes only slightly better, stat wise.

That surely doesnt justify the outlay of 10m+.

If we are gonna replace Howard, it needs to be a vastly much better Keeper.

I was so excited when we were linked to Butland, FFS.

Hart, Freidle, Cech, Scezny(sp), Howard

Next five
Vorm, Lindegaard, Schwartzer, Jaskelinennnnenenen, Krul.

I think thats pretty accurate when it comes to ranking the keepers.

This. Howard is a high quality keeper and affordable. You are not going to go find someone much better without laying out $$$.

Howard has always had trouble with low shots in general. He can make spectacular saves, but it's the seemingly easy ones that he has trouble with. If villa would part with Guzan, I'd sign him up, he has something to prove. Howard is way to secure in his starting spot. For Everton and the USMNT.

Howard is a great keeper, but we all know that he will have a howler of a game from time to time. In previous seasons, his mistakes have cost us all points because we could never put the ball in the net and we'd lose 1-0. At least we got something out of the game because our team is pushing forward and scoring multiples now (4 goals). Blame the refs for lost 2 points. After that, blame Howard.

If this continues and he is the reason we drop points, then we talk about dropping him, but every player has moments where they are not great. Howard's mistakes just end up as goals where Fellaini's end up in the defense having to bail him out.

Friedel, Hart, Cech, Lindergaard, Sczeceny, Foster, Given, Reina, Begovic, Al Habsi are all better keepers imo. Though some aren't playing well at this point.

I'd put Krul, Vorm and Mignolet as on a par.

It probably wouldn't work out financially to go after Vorm but he is the sort of keeper who performs consistently and keeps his side in games. Generally our centrebacks don't let a lot get past them so, if we had a keeper who was really on top of his game, it would be very difficult to score against us.

I'm not 100% convinced by Butland and I'm not totally sure that our reported interest was genuine. They'd want a minimum of £6m for him and he probably wouldn't see our first team for at least 3 years. Why would we tie what little funds we have available up on a player who won't improve our starting XI for some time to come?
